Description

The Boston Celtics are the most storied franchise in NBA history, with 17 championships, 24 ret aired numbers and dozens of Hall of Fame players who have been essential to the league's rise to prominence. From Bob Cousy to Chuck Cooper to Bill Russell to Dave Cowens to John Havlicek to Larry Bird to Robert Parish to Dennis Johnson to Paul Pierce to Kevin Garnett to Jayson Tatum, "The Boston Celtics: An Illustrated Timeline" covers all the amazing moments in Celtics lore. The franchise began as a member of the Basketball Association of America and then become an NBA cornerstone, with Hall of Famer Red Auerbach led the Celtics to nine championships in a 10-year span, including eight in a row with Russell, Cousy and Tom Heinsohn leading the way. The Celtics would make history by naming Russell as the first African American coach in American team sports, and Russell would in term lead the Celtics to two championships as a player-coach. The dominance would continue with two more titles in the 1970s, three more in the 1980s and finally the most recent championship in 2008. This book tells the illustrated story with detailed descriptions about all those special moments of this benchmark franchise. The ups. The downs. The historical moments. The big plays. The game-winning shots. The retired numbers. "The Boston Celtics: An Illustrated Timeline" conjures up all these special memories and even some even the most diehard Celtics fan may have forgotten. Written by longtime beat writer and columnist Gary Washburn, who also selected these 170-plus moments, the book is a must for those who bleed Celtics green and those who love NBA basketball then, now and forever.
